Cylinder Heads

  Valve train

The heads are a pair of Aussie 302 heads.  Similar to the blocks

we bake and blast the heads, followed by a magnetic crack inspection.  We installed solid bronze guides and hard seats.  The valve seats get the typical multi angle valve job.  Intakes are now 2.190" and exhaust are 1.760".  The valve train consists of valves by Ferrea and other components by Manley, Comp Cams and Elgin.

After the seats have been cut out to the new diameter, we un-shrouded the combustion chambers around the valves.

Last step is resurfacing the head for a straight surface and for

proper sealing.  I assembling the heads, many checks are being done.  One check shown is checking for assembled spring height.

Completely assembled and tested, the heads are now installed

with new heads bolts.  We pre-assemble the rocker arms and push rods to check, valve geometry and proper push-rod length.  The roller rocker arms are a "fulcrum" style that only requires bolting down in place.  They were supplied to us by Angus Racing and we would like to thank them for helping us with this project.  We have used their products before and I have been very impressed with them.

We tried to do our home work in the cam selection.  We got a lot of feedback from other 400 owners on their favorite cam.  I also compiled a collection of cams and specs which I made a link to.  After all this, I handed the specs over to a friend at Comp Cams and giving him the general idea of what we wanted to achieve, he came up with a custom grind for this application.  I would like to thanks Comp Cams for their help in the cam selection and their donation of the cam to this project.  Finally the bottom end was buttoned up wit a custom oil pan by Kevko Racing products.  They manufacture a rear sump pan and supplied us with a oil pump pick-up tube.  I would also like to thank Kevko for their donation of the pan and pick-up.
