By looking at the hole in the crank pin and compare it to

the location it is to the main and the radius seam,

you can see the difference in a 351M and 400.

400 Casting numbers:

5M, 5MA, 5MAB, 5MABC

400/351M & 351C Block

400/351M                               351C

Looking at the location of the distributor, compared to the water outlet,

the 400 water outlet is elevated a few inches.  Also the 400 usually has the

extra casting to the right of the distributor.
